Vision Statement The Glaucoma
Institute-Beverly Hills is dedicated to the research and treatment of glaucoma.
We are committed to provide only the highest quality personal glaucoma eye care
management for our patients, to conduct medical research to advance the
understanding of the mechanisms of glaucoma, and to develop new therapies to
improve the quality of life and to prevent blindness in patients with glaucoma.

Services
The Glaucoma Institute-Beverly Hills specializes in glaucoma diagnoses,
management, and treatment. We handle all aspects of care, from initial testing
and diagnosis to medical, laser, and surgical therapies. Additionally, the
staff is experienced in the treatment of other eye disorders including
cataract, anterior segment pathology, and refractive surgery.
About the Institute
The Glaucoma Institute-Beverly Hills has been based at our current location at
the Cedars-Sinai medical complex since 1982. Our diagnostic equipment includes
the most current perimeters, scanners, and biometers. Our therapeutic
outpatient laser specialties include Argon, SLT, and Nd-YAG. We have direct
access to resources at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to perform surgeries
with their Argon, Nd-YAG, and Excimer lasers. In addition, the Glaucoma
Institute-Beverly Hills conducts medical laser research in coordination with
scientists in Europe at universities in Berlin, Dresden, Detmold, Tübingen,
Helsinki, Athens, and Padova.
Staff Biographies
Michael S. Berlin, M.D.

Michael S. Berlin, M.D., founder and director of the Glaucoma Institute-Beverly
Hills, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in laser surgery and
in the research and treatment of glaucoma. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dr.
Berlin attended the University of Michigan where he received his Bachelor of
Sciences degree Cum Laude, his medical degree, and his Masters of Sciences
degree in Ophthalmology. He went on to complete his internship in Internal
Medicine at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, his Ophthalmology residency at the
University of Michigan, and his specialty glaucoma fellowship training at the
Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Berlin has extensive experience with glaucoma and cataract diagnosis,
treatment, and research. He has performed thousands of surgeries and has over
25 years of experience with cataract and glaucoma surgeries. He has also been
involved with various research projects all over the world developing new
therapies for glaucoma treatment.
For nearly 30 years, Dr. Berlin has served as a clinical instructor at four
medical centers including the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute where he is
currently a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of a
number of professional and honorary societies including the American Glaucoma
Society, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American
Academy of Ophthalmology where he was awarded the Honor Award and the Senior
Achievement Award. He has researched and published numerous books and articles
on glaucoma and laser surgery, and is regularly invited to lecture at
professional conferences, both in the United States and internationally.
